Five things in September: Trying to get back to normal

It’s a been a while since I last did a five things. A long while. Please excuse my absence, it’s taken me this long to be able to get the words out. You see since June I’ve been a bit unwell, the old depression and anxiety reared it’s ugly head and fuzzed my brain a lot. I’m back now, trying to get back to normal*.

The last few months have been spent trying to break through whatever it is that has caused these issues. I am aware what’s caused this, for want of a better word, breakdown, nevertheless I’m focusing on the positives and splurging some of my thoughts on here.

Daily anxiety attacks and afternoon naps with late night Netflix binge watching have subsided. It is time to get back into a routine.

During my five things in September I’m going to share a few things that have helped me out. By helping me out, I mean enable me a bit of self-care, focus and generally getting things back on track.

Five things in September:
One Second Everyday:

If you haven’t heard of 1SE let me explain. It’s an app for your phone that you record one second everyday on. It’s that simple!

I started filming midway through August, and now I’ve just completed by first full month yep September is captured – see what I’m on about by looking at this short video.

I love this app, it’s a great way to capture memories. For me, it makes me thankful for the life I have and the people in it. Sorry if I sounded like a hippy then!


Throughout this blip, illness wise, I’ve been looking at going back into therapy. I’m lucky that I have an IAPT worker, I’ve just started doing behavioural activation. I’m not going to go into it too much but I do have homework and it hurts my head!

Other things I have found that help include writing lists of tasks to do, these range from really simple to more complicated and The Five Minute Journal both are very useful and have helped in small ways.


I decided to get a new tattoo. Why? you ask, well I wanted something that signifies my journey. Simplicity was the key, but I also wanted something that ‘spoke’ to me. It’s personal, and there’s several meanings to it – past, present, future or earth, air, fire – take what you want from it. I know what it means to me 🙂

League of Gentlemen

You can’t beat a good laugh can you? I actually forgot I’d got tickets for the League of Gentlemen’s live tour  as I bought them so long ago! Thank goodness I remembered, eh!

I’m a huge fan of the guys behind LoG, and pretty much everything else they do. It was amazing seeing the show live. Full of fun, big belly laughs and such – loved every minute of it!

Date Night:

I got invited to take part in The Devonshire’s Gin School by the lovely people from True North Brewery. I won’t talk too much about the event itself as you can see my thoughts here. The highlight of it all was spending some proper quality time with my lovely Gary.

Gary is my rock, he’s been amazing during this rocky period, so it was great to hang out together. We laughed and chatted the evening away, it was great fun and certainly showed we need to do it more.

September has been a mixed bag of emotions, now October has started I’m looking forward to getting my life back on track.
